Handmade in KC

The days are getting longer, the Plaza Lights are casting their incandescent glow upon the city, and holiday music is unapologetically being played everywhere you go. This can only mean one thing: the holiday season is upon us, and so too is the time of gift-giving.

We've devised gift ideas + combinations for the homebodies in your life, the plant lovers, the foodies, the health enthusiasts, the trendsetters + even the occasional acquaintances, many of which highlight local vendors + shops you can support with your purchases. So in staying in that same vein of supporting our fellow neighbors + friends, today we're taking an even deeper dive into our "shop local" philosophy. We're talking hyperlocal: products that are handcrafted right here in the City of Fountains.

Here at Golden & Pine we love our local artists, and thought we'd make it easy for you to support their work by putting together a gift guide featuring our handpicked, local artist goodies that we have in our store right now. Read on for an all access guide into local artist offerings for the Holidays, and discover anything from our handwoven throws to our hand thrown vases.

That is the work of the lovely Katherine Moes, all of which come in a variety of neutral toned colors + organic shapes and sizes. One of our favorite combinations is stacking the White Speckle BellDry Sonora Bell + White Sonora Bell on the wall for a beautiful balance of color and elegance. Or keep it simple with a commanding yet beautifully quirky Large Bell, which hangs wonderfully on its own.

Plus, we recently added bud vases to our Katherine Moes offerings. Perfect for holding gorgeous dried flowers or some fresh clippings, these vases add an organic feel to any space. Shop the collection here

About the artist:

Katherine Moes made her way to Kansas City by way of Seattle. She accredits finding clay in 2016 as her reawakening, as with clay she also discovered peace, creative energy + meditation. As a ceramicist, her goal is to make objects that transform a house into a home — whether that be with tabletop vases, decorative bells or wall hangings. All of her work is lovingly made in Clay County, Missouri.

Happy Habitat | Cozying up with a mug of warm coffee, a nice book + a throw from Happy Habitat is honestly one of the most magical things one can experience during the Holidays. With gorgeous, handwoven designs, this soft, luscious + wonderfully heavy throw is the ultimate gift. Choose anything from the creamy classic vibe of the Moroccan Star Eco Throw, to the geometric lines of the Mixed Up Stripes Throw.

About the artist: Each Happy Habitat throw is designed by Kansas City native Karrie Dean. After getting laid off from the wild world of advertising, Karrie decided it was finally time to do something about the art degree she always dreamed of getting. After spending all her time sketching + tracking down artisans to bring her creations to life with soft, recycled cotton fibers, Karrie was able to create the Happy Habitat we know + love today. As an added bonus to the already wonderful act of shopping local, all of her throws are made in environmentally conscious ways. Check out Happy Habitat's Green Initiative by following this link

About the artist: Sarah Veak + her love affair with clay began at a very young age, as she grew up in the Southeast United States. After studying under studio potter Renata Wadsworth in NY, she eventually made her way to the urban core of Kansas City, where she now lives + works out of her quaint home studio in the Crossroads Arts District. All of her ceramic creations are functional ware - pieces that you can actually use + engage with. As she describes, she hopes that her work "might bring a table of friends and family together for a meal and merge the human appetite for both nourishment and beauty."

About the artist: Convivial Productions began in 2014 as a one-woman show led by founder Chentell Shannon, who was wheel-throwing out of a home garage in Kansas City. The company has since grown, now operating out of a 2500 square foot space, but still handcrafts each piece using traditional ceramic processes. Convivial produces goods for the home, table + garden. The designs are driven "by the mission to create wares that inspire others towards a life of conviviality - a friendly, lively + enjoyable atmosphere centered around good company."
